Sit ups, Baby, One More Time

For some women, a trip to the gym is a necessary evil, but that's not the case for Britney Spears. "It's something that I honestly enjoy doing," the 19-year-old pop star announced on a recent edition of MTV's Diary. "When I get up in the morning and I work out, I have more energy throughout the day. I just feel better about myself." Of course, endless crunches haven't hurt Spears' media profile either; after all, her abs get more press than the average member of Congress, a fact for which she remains wholly unapologetic. As she recently confessed to Rolling Stone: "I walk around my house naked, so I'm not very modest or whatever. I think the body's a beautiful thing, and you should not hide yourself."

Workout

"We cover the entire upper body in an hour," say's Spears' trainer, Bobby Strom. "We stick to light dumbbells and a few machines to keep her in top shape. We do four to five sets of each exercise with a minimum of 20 reps per set. She's rehearsing four hours a day now, so we won't do a lot of leg stuff. Every session includes a 10-minute treadmill warm-up, then circuit training, 10 more minutes on the treadmill, then more circuit training, then stretching and, finally, we end with ab work."

Cardio

"I get so pumped up doing the show - it's the best workout," says Spears. "It's like 45 minutes of intense aerobics. It kicks my butt, but I'm so jazzed by the end of every show. I love that feeling." Some of Spears' home treadmill workouts are even geared specifically toward her concert work. "Instead of just running, I tell Britney to sing her whole album while she's on the treadmill - full out," says her tour director and choreographer, Wade J. Robson. "It's a great way to increase her stamina."

Fuel

"You have to eat, you can't deprive yourself," says Spears. "I eat whatever I want, I just don't overeat." But trainer Strom does encourage the star to keep an eye on the sweets. "I really have her watching her sugar because she's young, and when you're young, you like to eat sugar," he says. "I have her stick with the basics, like chicken, fish, tuna, vegetables, and fruits - staying away from a lot of breads and processed sugars."

Indulgences

"Chicken and dumplings and cookie-dough ice cream."
